About Us

almerola International Airport is the new and modern air terminal serving Tegucigalpa and the central region of Honduras.

This innovative project for the Honduran aeronautical sector represented an investment of more than $200 million and replaced the operations of the old Toncontín Airport in the capital.

After six years of construction, Palmerola began operations on Saturday, December 11, 2021, with the inaugural flight of Spirit Airlines.

With almost 40,000 square meters of surface area, the airport has seven boarding gates and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in the airport field.

The development of the project is in charge of the Emco Group, through Palmerola International Airport, under the public-private partnership model. In addition, Emco managed to partner with Munich Airport International, contributing its experience in the operation of the terminal.

Palmerola has an automated baggage handling system (BHS) for greater efficiency.

To optimize the traveler experience, the airport offers 40 check-in counters, 34 immigration and emigration stations, as well as 18 self-check-in machines.

In terms of security and technology, the terminal is equipped with advanced X-ray machines and baggage scanners, as well as more than 450 surveillance cameras.

Currently, Emco also manages Toncontín Airport, coordinating the transfer of international airline operations to Palmerola.
